An Introduction to Perioscopy; The Standard of Care in Non-Surgical Periodontal Therapy
Traditional surgical approaches to periodontal disease are well documented, with predictable, high success rates. The advantage of a surgical approach is the clinician’s ability to directly visualize the tooth and surrounding periodontium. Current technology offers dentistry and our patients non-surgical treatment solutions for moderate to advanced periodontal and peri-implant diseases. Through intra-professional communication and treatment planning, Perioscopy is a predictable non-invasive treatment option.
Perioscopy provides real time, magnified sub-gingival imaging, enabling clinicians to diagnose and treat with the most minimally invasive, non-surgical modality available. Accepted in all medical surgical disciplines, the use of the endoscope has become a prerequisite for rapid wound healing with fewer complications and shorter resting times. Combined with individualized patient care to reduce host inflammation, enhanced visualization is a powerful tool that will prove to be the standard of care in non-surgical treatment of periodontal and peri-implant diseases.
In this course, Nicole Fortune will introduce the role of Perioscopy in non-surgical treatment of periodontal disease and peri-implant diseases. Case studies will be reviewed to illustrate the effectiveness and limitations of this treatment modality.
Participants will learn:
- Understand why Perioscopy is a standard of care for treatment of moderate to advanced periodontal and peri-implant diseases.
- Recognize under what conditions periodontal endoscopy is ideally utilized and when regenerative surgery is indicated.
- Understand how to recognize root surface abnormalities and implant conditions as potential barriers to healing.
