Peri-implantitis: Top 3 Major Key Issues from a Professional & At Home Maintenance Standpoint
90% of all dental implant complications are caused by a range of surgical and restorative errors such as poor implant planning, poor skills, and the use of conventional techniques. Although the dental hygiene profession is not responsible for the placement or restoration of dental implants, complications can also be the result of poor or inadequate professional hygiene care and/or recommendations. Ironically, while implant maintenance continues to be acknowledged as the most important aspect of implant health and success, the dental hygiene profession has yet to establish a definitive dental implant process of care.
In this course, Shavonne Healy will discuss the top major key issues from a professional and at home maintenance standpoint making known how the dental hygiene profession is contributing to the rise of dental implant complications.
Participants will learn:
- Recognize professional and at home maintenance as the end point goal of dental implant treatment
- Discuss the hygienist’s role in caring for patients with advanced implant dentistry
- Learn about innovations in the dental hygiene diagnostic, maintenance, and treatment modalities for the prevention and management of peri-implant disease.
